175g yellow split peas or split red lentils
1 large onion
2 tbsp oil
1 clove garlic
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground ginger
1 bay leaf
salt & pepper
Soak the split lentils or peas for a few hours, drain & rinse.
Fry the onion in the oil for 5 minutes then add the garlic, turmeric, ginger and bay leaf and cook for 5 minutes.
Stir in the split lentils or split peas and the water.
Bring to the boil and simmer for about 30 minutes.
Remove bay leaf and liquidise.
Wash the lemon and cut circles from it to garnish each bowl.
Squeeze the rest and add to the soup, season with salt & pepper.
